Wing Tsun for Self Defence

‘As a Police Officer I have to know that I can defend myself in any given situation. Wing Tsun enables me to do this if needed. In the last three weeks I have been attacked by people using knives, bottles, pool cue and even table legs. Because I trust and train the Wing Tsun system defending against using weapons is NOT a problem. The system is effective no matter the attacker's size. I am confident that I will always be able to defend myself by training Wing Tsun.’

Matthew M, 26 from Petts Wood. Police Officer

'I am a new beginner and have only trained for a few hours. However, I would like to say thank you, firstly for letting me and my friends join the school and, secondly, thank you for the training which you and your instructor team have already provided. The training has already proven itself very useful; I am in the security industry and found myself in a hostile situation. I chased after a shop-lifter with no radios and my team were separated and didn’t know my whereabouts. The shoplifter was very agitated and aggressive and of a much bigger size than me. I had asked him to calm down a number of times but he would not comply… He actually tried to strike me in the face but I used the ‘beggar’s palm’ to defend and attack at the same time. Obviously I didn’t want any trouble but I have only trained for a few hours and your teachings have already proved useful. I will carry on training hard as this has made me even more determined and intrigued to learn more about Wing Tsun. Thank you once again.’

‘Everything I have seen and read on the subject of Wing Tsun shows it to be a highly effective and to-the-point combat system that is ideal for self-defence in real-life situations (as opposed to the sets of movies!) It does not require a huge level of fitness (although your fitness will improve when you do it) and you don’t need to be ridiculously supple (no having to do the splits here!!!) It is a skill that I’m sure most people will be able to take into later life and still be effective with. The Wing Tsun forms and drills lend themselves to training on your own so there is plenty you can do to improve your skills in your own time. I also find this training, particularly the forms, very therapeutic and relaxing.

The classes give a good work-out without being too extreme to want to attend after a day’s work! The instructors and students are all friendly, helpful people and the mood is a good mixture of light heartedness and serious attention to what we are aiming to achieve. One of the things I really like is that when we train we change partners regularly, taking it in turns to be the attacker. This means you get to train with people of different heights, weights, gender and ability. This, to my mind, is invaluable as you won’t be able to choose your attacker(s) if it ever happens for real!’

‘Having worked in the pub trade for a number of years I was looking for a practical form of self defence and this meets all the requirements. It is fun as well as being useful.’

'We would like to express our gratitude for your contribution to the Year 13 Action Day. The feedback which we received from the students and the members of staff present about the self defence session was very positive indeed. You have very successfully communicated the importance of staying safe. The students and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and found the advice and the techniques which you have taught them to be very practical and valuable. We look forward to working with you again in the future.'

‘I have been practising martial arts on and off since the age of 8. In my mind the Wing Tsun taught by Julian Hitch MASE is the most effective means of self defence that I have done and seen. Wing Tsun as a system is effective from the first lesson, as the techniques taught are simple body mechanics. The classes are unlike most other martial arts classes, because the other students and instructors are approachable and always willing to help you with what you are training at the time, no matter what your own level is. Wing Tsun is the only martial art that after the first few months I thought that I would like to teach. If you want to get fit, become more self-confident and defend yourself and others and have fun at the same time then come and have a try.’

Michael B, 29 from Orpington. Civil Servant

‘Having had it proved to me that Wing Tsun with its simultaneous defensive and offensive movement was capable of destroying my previous style of Thai Boxing I felt it necessary to start training. Since I started I have been shown how simple it actually is to defend oneself if ever confronted in such a situation. Add to this the increased confidence as my ability has improved, I feel that I am now able to testify that Wing Tsun is a very competent system of defence, suitable for both men and women regardless of other previous martial art experience or fitness.’

Thank you so much for the self-defence programme you held at my school today. It was incredibly informative and has made me feel more confident about defending myself, should I be attacked… I think I speak for everyone when I say we’re all grateful for your seminar. Thank you and the instructors so much for taking time out to teach us about self-defence.’

‘Wing Tsun is by far the most effective Martial Art that I have come across for self defence. Before I came to this school I was a victim, but since I started training I have become a lot more self-confident and believe that I can handle myself in almost every situation. Wing Tsun is the martial art for those that fear bullies and muggers.’
