About Our Tuition

"I am a 42-year-old journalist from Hayes, Kent. I had no previous martial arts experience prior to joining the school 18 months ago but did serve for six years in a tank regiment in the British Army (1987-1993).

I was mainly attracted to Wing Tsun because of its intelligent approach to conflict, for example using very clever but simple methods to defeat a larger opponent. The student syllabus is very clear and structured, and basic techniques can be learned and applied quickly. Wing Tsun is very deep and studying it can be quite addictive. For me, there have been several revelatory moments along the way, whereby something initially is unclear but then suddenly makes sense, often several months later. It is a unique challenge, pushing both physical and mental abilities to the limits. While this is not easy, the rewards - increased self-confidence, fitness and calmness to name a few - are certainly worth it.

I would highly recommend Wing Tsun to anyone considering taking up a martial art. I consider myself very fortunate to have discovered Wing Tsun and particularly the traditional Chinese art as taught at Si-Fu Julian Hitch’s schools.

“The tuition given by Si-Fu Julian Hitch, Si-Mei and Si-Hing is second to none. Having experienced other types of Wing Tsun training across the country, I can say that the training provided here would not be found anywhere else in the country. It is only when you have experienced other types of training that you can truly appreciate the quality of training provided here. Their knowledge and understand of the system is exceptional. Techniques are explained is in such a way that the student will instantly comprehend ideas and principle behind the technique. They also genuinely care for the progression and development of a student. Combining this with their knowledge and understanding means that they offer the very best training possible.”

When you first start training you will be surprised by how easy and effective Wing Tsun techniques are and how easily they can be used in real life situation. As the weeks go by, you will build your confidence, fitness, stamina and all other physical and mental aspects you would expect to develop when training a martial art. However, as the months go by, you start to really understand Wing Tsun and you realise there is a lot more to develop than just these aspects. Wing Tsun is more to do with how you can develop as a person. It teaches you principles that can and should be applied in life as well as in lessons. The more you study and understand it, the more you will be amazed by how much there is to know and what it is actually trying to teach. In essence Wing Tsun is a microcosm of life.”

“I have been doing Wing Tsun at Julian Hitch Martial Arts Schools of Excellence for over a year now, and it is an honour. I am very proud to be a student of the school. The first time I attended the school I realised this was something very special and I can honestly say it has changed my life.

The teachers of the school, Si-Hing and Si-Mei are so dedicated and motivated that you get the most from your training and a better understanding of what you are doing.

I have attended the school seminars, which Si-Fu Julian Hitch presents. The seminars are very rewarding and seriously help you step up your level. You are taught applications by Si-Fu, throughout the seminars which are just phenomenal. When you are in the presence of Si-Fu and he shares his knowledge and philosophy of Wing Tsun, it is such a privilege and this information is invaluable. It is something incredible and breath-taking to see a real master of the Art.

I have become very passionate about Wing Tsun and I really look forward to my training and to seminars. This is all because the way the school teaches and pushes its students - it really is a school of excellence and so is the master.”

“For me, Wing Tsun compels me to consistently strive to achieve my best in everything I do. After having trained for almost one year and being taught by Sifu, SiHing and SiMei, I have come to realise them as not only my mentors in Wing Tsun but also as role models.

The instructors here at Julian Hitch MASE are all deeply enthusiastic about Wing Tsun and are always keen to help students by pushing their boundaries. My favourite aspect of Wing Tsun is that it never gets old - you can always find new things within previously known applications and exercises. This is because your boundaries are constantly being pushed by the instructors so that when you do improve it's almost like being enlightened about a particular aspect of Wing Tsun.

If I did have any regrets about learning Wing Tsun, it would be that I didn't start learning earlier. This is because I will eventually have to leave to pursue higher education in university. When I do leave it will be a very reluctant farewell because I know I will miss training greatly however I have every intention of returning ASAP after finishing university.”

“I have been attending Wing Tsun classes now for nearly a year. I joined in an attempt to do something outside of my comfort zone and it has been proved to be an excellent decision. The practical benefits of learning Wing Tsun as a martial art have been to improve my physical condition and my chances of successfully defending myself and family.

Si-Fu Julian Hitch is highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher and has a great team of instructors. Both the classes and seminars are attended by people of all backgrounds and I have found them to be well constructed, with a high work ethic but enjoyable at the same time. I look forward to attending many more in the future”

“When I first found Wing Tsun I was looking for somewhere to learn self-defence, get big muscles and improve my general fitness. Within 5 minutes of my trial lesson I knew 2 things; firstly what I was training was something special, secondly Chinese Wing Tsun is for me! Since then I have learnt that you don’t need to have big muscles to be able to defend yourself or to be self-confident.

Through training at the Julian Hitch MASE my endurance and health have greatly improved and with the help of the teachers and other students I continue to push my limits. As a result of my training I have a greater awareness of my surroundings and of how I come across to other people. What started out, as fitness and self-defence exercise class very quickly became a continuing journey of spiritual and physical development through Wing Tsun.

I find the classes both enjoyable and challenging - they’re designed so that you work at your own limit even if training with students who have been with the school for years. I have found you don’t need any previous martial arts experience.

Si-Fu Julian Hitch never stops teaching! Even during the 29hour world record training session, at a point when everyone was completely exhausted, I was genuinely concerned for his health, that is until he corrected me on the application we were training! Si-Fu is a man who you can see constantly strives to improve not just himself and the standing of Chinese Wing Tsun in the United Kingdom, but the fighting and spiritual well being of his students.”

"The more I learn about the Wing Tsun system, the more I am fascinated by it.  Attending classes at the Julian Hitch MASE has not only improved my fitness and self-confidence, but also provided me with an opportunity to be part of an intelligent fighting tradition which stretches back hundreds of years.  The art of Wing Tsun has gradually become a big part of my life and I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to study under the excellent guidance of Si-Fu, Si-Hing and Si-Mei."

Dan, 38, from Beckenham. Composer,

"The instructors are thorough and detailed and they are always helpful. Si-Fu gives quality instruction; he is great at explaining things and pays attention to detail. Si-Fu genuinely cares about his student’s progress and is extremely positive and a highly dedicated teacher."

Della O, 23 from Forest Hill. Student

"The multiple instructors in the class are always eager to answer any questions and point you in the right direction with your techniques. They all demonstrate extreme competence in teaching beginners right up to high grade students, and their enthusiasm is infectious, making you want to train harder and better! As Si-Fu and the other instructors often say ‘Wing Tsun is a concept,’ and as a student I have found this true in terms of positivity and confidence that comes with successfully learning new moves each lesson."

Zoe C, 17 from Bromley. Student

"I had wanted to try martial arts for ages, so I did some research on different types, and liked everything that I heard about Wing Tsun. I gave it a try, loved it, and have now been doing it for 6 months! The classes are excellent for a spiritual and a physical focus, Wing Tsun helps me to become more grounded, strong and graceful in mind and body. It is great sharing this with a variety of different people in a positive and friendly environment. During the Wing Tsun classes we practise one of the main elements of the martial art, and that is respect. It is the perfect place to go to improve your skills (in Wing Tsun and in life) and has a perfect balance of focus and fun!

Coming to Wing Tsun has helped me to become more confident and to feel more accepted by others. It is also brilliant meeting other people, who like me are focused on growing and becoming all that they dream they are destined to be!"

Susie P, 21 from Bromley. Student

"The classes are varied and challenging, allowing each student to develop at their own speed. They provide a balance between the discipline and drilling needed to master Martial Arts and practising the more interesting manoeuvers, which keeps the classes both enjoyable and instructive. Wing Tsun has helped us by developing our self confidence, both socially and when faced with potentially dangerous situations."

Peter and David J, 22 from Catford. Management Trainee at Waitrose

"I find the style of training to be extremely practical and have every faith that the instructors would be fully able to actually practise what they preach in real-life situations. Their knowledge of other combat systems, plus an in-depth understanding of what the average ‘brawler’ does, enables them to teach, very competently, how to deal with a wide range of attacks that you could be faced with. The passion they have for Wing Tsun certainly comes across in their teaching and this, in my opinion, is of huge benefit to us students."

Ian C, 38 from Bromley. IT Professional

"I had no experience of any martial art whatsoever but found the classes friendly and the instructors both patient and knowledgeable. The lessons can be both physically and mentally testing but they are always rewarding. The training and the theory are almost addictive, and I have since upgraded my course twice to get the most out of the system. During our initial discussion, Si-Fu Julian Hitch emphasized that there is a direct relationship in Wing Tsun between the time and effort that you put in and what you can achieve from it. Over the months this has become more and more evident as my fitness, co-ordination and fighting skills continue to improve."
