Good morning.

I am delighted to say that our schools have been invited to perform a demonstration this Thursday (19th) for Dulwich Picture Gallery. It is aimed at giving a greater understanding of the Chinese culture and takes place between 6.30 and 10pm. There will be a number of other attractions there, including: short films, music, art activities (including circus skills workshop for all ages) and curatorial talks. The café, shop and chapel will also be open. The event is free (it normally costs £5) and includes admission to the gallery and the special exhibition - a collection of photographs from 1903-1905 in China. As I am also led to believe that the BBC programme the Antiques Roadshow will be there, so it certainly promises to be an excellent event.

Dulwich Picture Gallery is an internationally renowned art gallery and home to works of art by some the world’s most renowned artists. This includes a collection of old masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Gainsborough. Having last visited quite a few years ago, I was very kindly shown round the gallery by one of the organisers last week and I can certainly say it is a worthwhile experience. You cannot fail to be impressed by the dedication, skill and attention to detail by the artists on display; some of the paintings are so realistic that you can almost feel the clothes and materials that they are portraying.

All the teachers will be there, and it would be nice if some of the students could also attend – from Bromley as well as Dulwich schools. I do, of course, expect students to turn up in Wing Tsun uniform. Due to the demonstration, there will be no classes on that day. Students will, of course, be able to catch up their training by attending extra classes the next week. For the Bromley class I am also informed that there is space in the Wednesday class so this might be a preferred training option.

For those readers who are not members of the school, we will have a tent on the grass by the entrance to the gallery, where we will be talking to members of the public. Please feel to approach us with any questions that you may have, or just to talk in general about Wing Tsun and martial arts.
