Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onTuesday, March 31, 2009
Good morning.

Last night I visited both the Bromley and Dulwich schools. My main aim was to make sure that all the students were clear on the purposes behind the grading and the seminar. However, it was also brought to my attention that last year a few students were not aware that they would be missing out if they did not attend the weapons defence seminar (and apparently the same happens after most the seminars).

Personally, this is a view with which I have very little sympathy – the schools give notice of the seminars at the start of the year, they are published on this site, and regularly mentioned in class as well as brochures being sent out about them. Short of coercing people to attend (which is both highly inappropriate and extremely shor ...

Specialist teaching

Good evening.

Continuing the theme of my last post, I would like to give more details about the forthcoming seminar on defence against weapons that will take place between the 2nd and 5th April. I do not wish to repeat completely what I have already written so I would advise those who have not done so to read my earlier post written on the 18th February 2008.

Although all the seminars are intense, over the past years this has perhaps been one of the hardest: there is a very small margin for error; the odds are against you; and even more than normal, the techniques must be ingrained into your nervous system.

Good afternoon on this beautiful sunny day.

I would like to mention an incident involving one of my students that was recently brought to my attention. I won’t mention this person by name, but I thought that the matter was sufficiently important to be made public.

Last week, when walking home in the evening, this student was confronted by three men. After an initially ‘innocent’ dialogue (a signature of this kind of attack), they proceeded to try to steal the student’s belongings. At this point the attacker proceeded to pull a knife out of his pocket. Reacting instantly, and with one movement, the student both stopped this happening and knocked the attacker unconscious with a single punch. The other two wou ...

Good evening.

I would like to apologise to those people that have emailed me and I haven’t responded to over the last few months (especially those people who have sent very nice emails about how much difference Chinese Wing Tsun has made to their lives). Despite my good intentions I’m afraid that I am up to 4 months behind in some cases.

The life, and timetable, of a kung fu master is rather different, and bar posting my blog I rarely have the time to sit down at the computer. I’m afraid that when the choice is between teaching and responding to my emails, the emails rather get left behind…

However, over t ...

Further addition

Good afternoon.

A page on the Graduation has now been added to the website. This gives the background and more details about one of the most important events in the Chinese Wing Tsun year. This will be of particular interest to those new students who have never attended one of these ceremonies.

I had, in fact, intended to write a little more about the most recent Graduation. If I get time I will try to do this in the next few weeks. I am also informed that the pictures from the event should be added to the gallery soon. You will, of course, be notified when this is the case.

Calendar for the year
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onWednesday, February 18, 2009
Good afternoon.

A new page, Calendar of Events 2009, has been added to the website. This details all the major events that are happening in the school, along with the holiday dates. To highlight, the Graduation this year will be on the 11th December so make sure that this is put in your diary…

It certainly promises to continue to be an exiting year; the aim for all the students, regardless of level, is for this year to be the biggest leap forward yet in their development. Indeed, the number of seminars being taught is the highest in the schools to date and a special intensive training is proposed for Montenegro in the summer ...

Applying the principles
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onSaturday, February 07, 2009
Good morning.

The rays of sun are dancing on the snow as it gradually seeps away. Footsteps crunch on the icy pavements and the noise of the traffic has once again escalated to a constant din. Life in England is almost normal again… This week the classes indeed ran as promised and quite a number of students trekked through the icy conditions to train in the ‘footsteps’ of the ancient masters…

As promised, I will continue with the recent topic of the talks for prospective students. With the concepts discussed in my previous post (27th January), the natural question that beckons is why do I do any talks for prospective students at all? To understand this, you first have to understand that ther ...
