Understanding
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onTuesday, January 27, 2009
Good afternoon.

I am often asked about level of understanding you need as a master. This is particularly poignant when teaching an art such as Wing Tsun that has its basis in the eastern culture and is, by definition, alien to way of life that surrounds us. The simple answer is you need to understand the art deeply – not just follow the traditions but know why. To give an illustration I will mention the recent talks that took place at the schools.

As a rule, I leave the intake of new students to the teachers and assistants. There are a number of reasons why this happens. Firstly, I am pleased to say, those involved are more than capable to do so; they have had a significant amount of personal training by me, and learn quickly from the experience ...

Welcome...
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onThursday, January 22, 2009
Good afternoon.

This week saw the final introductions for prospective students. I would like to extend my welcome to the group of students that joined the schools in the last few days.

One of the things that has been most pleasing to see is that such a wide selection of society is interested in the art of Wing Tsun. I have always believed this to be so, but for one reason or another it has not always been the case –you find theory and reality are seldom the same. However, over the last two weeks not only have people from all ages attended (from 10 years old up to age of 79) but from all backgrounds and experiences. There were whole families present, there were couples, there were those who were new to the martial arts and there were high level p ...

Positive change
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onSaturday, January 17, 2009
Good evening.

Today saw our 3rd and penultimate open day (for the next few months at least) in Bromley High street. I’m very pleased to say that the interest has been nothing short of overwhelming; indeed so much so that we now have quite along waiting list for the schools.

Having had the opportunity to meet some of the new students last week it is good to see that many of them are already taking on board the teachings of Wing Tsun. My message to you is this; you have made the right decision and are in good hands. It is only occasionally an opportunity comes along to change your life in a positive way and learn something special and I believe this is one of them…

The Chinese way
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onMonday, January 12, 2009
Good evening.

This weekend saw our schools host an open day in Bromley High Street. If I get the chance I will talk more about his at a later date. However, what I would like to briefly mention is the teachers and helpers from the schools that took part to make this day possible.

Having personally held numerous open days in the past I know they are both extremely rewarding and extremely tiring. However, what made this particularly testing were the weather conditions; Saturday saw the coldest weather we have had for 10 years. During the week the newspapers were even reporting that the UK was colder than some parts of the Antarctic! To put this in perspective the assistants and teachers were on the high street from 8am and did not leave until after ...

The vision of Chinese Wing Tsun
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onMonday, December 29, 2008
The lofty rooms were ceremonially decorated reflecting the magnificence and elegance of Chinese Wing Tsun. Traditional hangings adorned the walls, with its characters quietly shimmering in the light. Photographs displayed the history of the schools and paintings majestically depicted the masters; you could almost touch the ancestry of the art. High up on the wall the Master’s pictures watched silently over the proceedings.

Welcoming and smiling helpers frequented the door. Bowing and greeting they ushered in the multitude of faces; people from all cultures and backgrounds brought together for a single purpose and a single ideal. Fresh and wholesome food was shared together with happiness and laughter. The Graduation was the very personification of Chinese Wing Tsun…

The ones around us...

Good morning.

I would like to give my very best wishes on this Christmas day

It is the one day, in the brief passage of time which is our life, when we can stop for a moment and appreciate those people whom we take for granted all year. For me, the spirit of Christmas is actually far removed from the commercial aspect. Whilst buying and giving plays a part, I believe that this is merely the periphery of a much more important ideal:  Christmas is not about us, but rather about everybody else.  As John Donne famously stated in one of his sermons: ‘no man is an island entire of himself’. We all need the help and support of the people around us; it is not possible for us to achieve what we do without it, and our life would be so much worse without those ...
