| Good morning. In case you haven’t seen already, the pictures from the summer seminar are in the gallery. The next seminar will be the Chi-Gerk seminar which takes place in Dulwich on 12th, 13th and 14th September. This is the highlight of the seminar year; it will cover extremely exclusive material that is only ever normally taught just before mastering the whole unarmed Wing Tsun system. It is unlikely I will be repeating this, at least in the near future, so I would strongly suggest that students make every effort to attend. I will be writing in more detail about it in ... | | |

| Good afternoon. On Monday (25th August) we will be taking part in the Bromley Carnival. This will take place in Norman Park (which, for those of you interested in history, is named after General Norman who used to own a large part of the land in Bromley). The event takes place between 10am and 5pm and is normally one of the highlights of the year for Bromley Borough. It has been running for over 30 years and will have a lot of entertainment aimed at all ages – from live music through to donkey rides. The will also be a large number of charity and trader stalls. As usual our schools will have a marquee and will be ... | | |

| Teacher Training... | | Si-Fu's Blog

| Good afternoon. The majority of this weekend just passed was dedicated to a teacher training course. It was an unusual course in two respects; firstly it was selective and secondly over 50% of the course was dedicated to the non-physical aspects of being a teacher. There were no particular grade requirements for the course, (although it was not, of course, suitable for beginners), rather the requirement was that a person demonstrates the right attitude, conduct and ability. An interest in teaching and the desire to take your knowledge and ability to the next level was also a pre-requisite. Each person invited was selected by myself and the other teachers. One of the hardest concepts to grasp as a teacher is individuality. A teacher must be able to have the strength of character to b ... | | |

| Good morning. I would like to say well done to all the students who attended the classes in the past week. It was not an easy training and indeed rather a special one; it was aimed at not just improving the skills, but comprehensively understanding the Wing Tsun system. To give the teachers some support (and also a well deserved break) I taught most of the classes this week. Special emphasis was placed on the some of the very foundations of the art – not just the physical, but also the spiritual. The essence of truly teaching the art of Wing Tsun is having the ability to balance the theory and the physical training. Without frequent teaching on the theory and spiritual side it is impossible to understand Wing Tsun. However, without hard training it is impossible to maste ... | | |

| Good afternoon. The photos from the recent Bromley Arts Festival are now in the gallery. There have also been a number of other updates to the website, including a new page for those people who work in the security industry. Sifu Ps. as the luckiest day of the year in the Chinese calendar, and the start of the Olympics in Beijing, I wish everyone a very special day. | | |

| Weekly update | | Si-Fu's Blog
| By Si- Fu onWednesday, August 06, 2008 | |
| Good afternoon. One of the most important skills as a teacher is to be able to get the most out of your students. It frequently means changing the way in which you normally teach to make sure that each student is able to grasp the concept involved (note, however, that this does not mean changing the concept). I will write more about this at a later date, particularly as I will be running a specialist teacher training course for those students that have been selected on the 15th and 16th of this month. One method I do want to briefly mention is that of sending each student a weekly sms. Sent at the beginning of the week this details the subjects to be covered in the forthcoming lessons, along with any important ... | | |

| On the right path.. | | Si-Fu's Blog

| Good morning. I would like to relate an incident that happened to me recently. I believe this is not just a topic of interest, but also an excellent illustration of the ‘soul’ of martial arts. When you get into any subject deeply you get to know many other senior people in the field – and martial arts is certainly no different in this respect. As it so happens one of my neighbours was a Judo master of not insignificant standing for many years. Not only was this man famous in his heyday, but he taught people later who were to become household names in the martial arts. He is now in his 80’s, and although he retired from active teaching at 65, he stills trains for himself everyday. | |
