Good evening.

Next week sees the beginning of the Summer Seminar - taking place between the 2nd and 6th July. If you haven’t already received a brochure please contact the schools. For those students who have not yet attended a seminar you might find it useful to look at the webpage about it. However, in short they are one-off events, available (and indeed recommended) for students of all levels.

The seminar will be the equivalent of a summer camp and as such will be a special event. This is because each day ...

Dulwich Picture Gallery
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onTuesday, June 24, 2008
Good morning.

I would like to say a few words about the demonstration at Dulwich Picture Gallery on Thursday. When you do a large amount of demonstrations you find that each one has different characteristics; I am happy to day that this one had a lovely relaxed atmosphere with perfectly charming people. If you still haven’t had the chance to visit the Gallery I thoroughly recommend it – it is in an absolutely beautiful setting, not to mention the special art on display. The Gallery, founded in 1811, is also the UK’s oldest public picture gallery.

I would like to thank the organisers for an excellent and enjoyable evening. Particular thanks go to Anna for both the invitation and all the hard work that made the night possible. ...

Chinese training
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onWednesday, June 18, 2008
Good afternoon.

Since I have been teaching almost non-stop for the last few weeks it has meant that, despite my best intentions, I simply haven’t had the opportunity to post. I will be, therefore, trying to get you caught up with all the recent events that have happened.

To start with, on last Thursday I taught the class in Bromley. As you know I do not teach beginners, and teaching class is the exception rather that the rule. However, I decided to check the class to see how the students were progressing and make sure that they were making the most of their time in class. It was with this in mind that I decided that they would have the same traditional Chinese style class that takes place at my weekly teacher training. (Although all the schools ...

Invitation
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onMonday, June 16, 2008
Good morning.

I am delighted to say that our schools have been invited to perform a demonstration this Thursday (19th) for Dulwich Picture Gallery. It is aimed at giving a greater understanding of the Chinese culture and takes place between 6.30 and 10pm. There will be a number of other attractions there, including: short films, music, art activities (including circus skills workshop for all ages) and curatorial talks. The café, shop and chapel will also be open. The event is free (it normally costs £5) and includes admission to the gallery and the special exhibition - a collection of photographs from 1903-1905 in China. As I am also led to believe that the BBC programme the Antiques Roadshow will be there, so it certainly promises to be an excellent event.

Stronger..
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onWednesday, June 11, 2008
Good morning.

Further to yesterday’s post I would also like to add that all the punches were done without gloves ie with bare hands. This is because it conditions and builds the body and fists much stronger than if you use them; Wing Tsun is a professional art, not a sport.

I thought that it might be interesting to point out that we actually threw more punches than boxers do when preparing for a fight…

Good morning.

On Saturday was my personal class for training teachers. As you may or may not be aware, it is a requirement of the schools that every teacher constantly improves and builds on their skills. This applies not only on their physical techniques and development as a Wing Tsun practitioner, but also on their ability to impart knowledge and develop the students. Ever since I founded the schools aged 18 it has always been a fundamental principle of the schools that the tuition given is of the highest possible quality.

There are many ways that this continual improvement happens, but not least through private lessons (each teacher has a minimum of two lessons a month with me), regular meetings of all the teachers together, dedicated seminars and prof ...

Intensive training
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onTuesday, June 03, 2008
Good afternoon.

In about 6 weeks I will be teaching a specialist 5 day unarmed combat course for the Close Protection and Bodyguard training company that I am associated with. I am extremely fortunate to be assisted by some of the leading close protection trainers, who have not only extensive military and practical experience but excellent teaching skills. There is a webpage which covers the essence of what will be taught (and if you would like to know more about my association with the company, please read my earlier posts on this subject).

The course will encompass a wide range of topics, some of which I have taught at seminars. The difference, however, with this course is the sheer ...
