Good morning.

I would like to add one further point to my last post. As the Chi-Sau seminar will be the last seminar of the year I think that every student should be taking this opportunity to grade if at all possible. As I have mentioned before, I sincerely believe that it is important for every student to both set and try to achieve their targets for the year.

Skill in Wing Tsun only develops proportionally to the effort, planning and hard work that you put in; you have to be pushing yourself to achieve the highest possible skill that you can. The grading system offers a way of structuring this and setting your own personal targets (for more details on grading please see an earlier post).  The Si-Hings and Si-Meis will be talking to all the stu ...

Soul of Wing Tsun
Si-Fu's Blog By Si- Fu onFriday, October 26, 2007
Greetings.

On 16th, 17th and 18th November I will be teaching a seminar on the subject of Chi-Sau. It is one of the most famous parts of Wing Tsun, and it is unique in the martial arts. As this is a topic that requires more training than talking I’m not going to converse at length about it. However, as it is often misunderstood I do wish to say a few words.

The most common misunderstanding in Chi-Sau is its purpose. I have heard so many disparate views that it would be impossible to relate them all here. However, one of the most common ‘criticisms’ is that it is ‘not realistic for fighting.’ While I would have to agree with this statement ...

Good afternoon.

I would like to add one extra point to what I have said already on the close protection. When I was there a few months ago, a representative of company specialising in equipment for protection and training also happened to be there at the same time. Among other things, one of the things he brought for the trainers was one of the latest bullet proof jackets – which consisted of a special fabric with metal plates inserted. The representative assured us that the jacket could not only safely defend a blast at point blank from a shotgun and would leave the wearer with minimal bruising, but would happily demonstrate it (rather him than me!). What happened next was certainly interesting.

Curious to know whether it would stop a Wing Tsun ...

Unique applicability…

Good morning.

Continuing on from my earlier post I would like to speak in a little bit more detail about my association with the close protection training company. I have meaning to write about this for quite some time now (for a couple of months even!) as I think the topic is not without interest.

The first thing that I would like to say is that it has been rewarding, both personally and professionally, to spend time with the close protection company and their trainers. The company has placed a high value on the quality of their training team and consist solely of experienced instructors, all with military backgrounds, with the lead trainer having over 18 years of operational practice in this area. Their ideas and methods are not too dissimilar to Chines ...

Good morning.

I must apologise for the absence of posts in the last couple of weeks. I have actually written a number of them, but I simply haven’t had the opportunity to upload them. I aim to rectify this as soon as I can.

Similarities

Greetings on what appears to be the official end of summer weather in England for this year!

I spend the first part of last week out in Geneva with one of the most highly regarded close protection and bodyguard training companies in the UK. I have been associated with them for some time now, working with their team with the aim of developing their tuition and teaching methods even further, particularly in the area of unarmed combat. I will talk more about this at a later date, but on this particular trip the trainees spent most of the time on tactical handgun training.

It was particularly interesting to see that the concepts and training methods taught on the course were analogous to that of Chinese Wing Tsun. It was certainly poignant that the first part ...
