Prospective Wing Tsun Kung Fu Students

Below you will find information about joining our schools, from training options and prices to the schools’ selection policy. All prospective students are highly recommended to attend an introduction and trial. This is completely free of charge, with no obligation to join, and allows you to experience Chinese Wing Tsun for yourself.

Ethos of the schools
Our founding principle is to ensure that all students are educated to the highest level in all aspects of the art of Wing Tsun Kung Fu. The development and training of our students is of the utmost importance to us; we work with all our students to ensure that they achieve their aims from the training.

We welcome people from all backgrounds who want to develop through the art of Wing Tsun Kung Fu. No prior martial art or Kung Fu training is required to join our schools.

Selection process
To join the schools each student goes through our informal selection process. This is by no means intimidating – indeed the very opposite. All our teachers and assistants are friendly and welcoming and you will be introduced to numerous members of the school during this period. The selection process takes place over 2 stages: an initial introduction meeting and a trial period in the classes. At the end of the trial period a teacher will speak to you about whether the school is right for you.

Why are our schools selective?
Firstly, it is important for students entering the martial arts to understand that not every martial art is for every person; a martial art must suit a person’s temperament and personality. We invest a lot of time and effort into each student, so we wish to ensure, as far as possible, that Wing Tsun is the right art for them. Every student who joins the school not only becomes a member but becomes part of a ‘Kung fu family’. This is a tradition dating back hundreds of years where students from all walks of life help and support each other, making lifelong friendships in the process.

Secondly, the fact we are selective is one of the reasons our tuition is held in such high regard; we operate a strict policy of only selecting the students who have the right attitude and will conduct themselves in the appropriate manner.

Limited numbers
To ensure our students get the best tuition, we only accept a limited number of students each month. Due to the way our classes are scheduled, we will unfortunately not be able to accommodate people who simply turn up on the day without an appointment.

If for any reason you cannot make your allotted time, it is important that you let the school know at the earliest possible opportunity so the place can be given to those on the waiting list. Please be aware that prospective students who fail to attend without notice risk being removed from the waiting list.

Personal introductions
Personal introductions
We meet each prospective student personally to talk to them about whether Chinese Wing Tsun is the art for them. To ensure that each person is spoken to individually trial classes must be booked before attending. Please contact us to find the next available date.

The aim of the personal introduction is to meet one of the teachers or senior assistants in a pleasant and relaxed environment. Our introductions allow us to get to know prospective students better, explain how our schools operate and answer any questions or concerns. There is also an opportunity to view and take part in a class. We want to make sure that prospective students are able to find out whether Wing Tsun is the right system for them.

Equality and diversity
Our schools have a strong policy on equality and diversity; no person will be refused admission to our schools because of their background, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. In the unlikely event that you feel that you have been discriminated against please contact Si-Fu Julian Hitch confidentially by email.
