Historical Performance

On 22nd September 2011 the Julian Hitch Martial Art Schools of Excellence became the first ever non-Chinese Martial Art school to perform on stage at the Shaolin Temple in Henan province. Dating back thousands of years, the Shaolin Temple is regarded as the spiritual home of all Chinese Kung Fu; its “fighting monks” are legendary, touring the world with sell-out public performances. The School was invited to share the stage with the Shaolin Monks for a packed public performance to over 1000 people. For the first-time ever Si-Fu Julian Hitch performed the secretive Biu Jee form in public. Other performances included blindfolded Chi-Sau and fighting applications against numerous opponents.

The School’s performance at the Shaolin Temple was greeted with gasps and applause from the audience throughout the performance. Upon the School returning backstage, the Shaolin monks lined up and enthusiastically applauded. Backstage Si-Fu Julian Hitch also taught some of the younger generation monks the famous one-inch punch. After exchanging mutual gifts, the Shaolin Master stated ‘Your performance was excellent and it was an honour to have you on stage. This is now your home and you are welcome back any time.’

The School then continued by performing at the entrance to the Shaolin Temple and at the very old Pagoda Forest. The school had 20 minutes of quiet reflection in the Pagoda Gardens, paying respects to the generations of dead masters who are buried there. The history of the art had come round in a full circle.
